Remembering Air India Flight 171: A TragicNs
Chapter in Aviation History
On July 18, 1959, a routine international flight turned into a devastating tragedy when Air India Flight 171 crashed into the Arabian Sea shortly after takeoff from Santacruz Airport (now Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport) in Mumbai, India. The accident resulted in the loss of all 46 people on board—38 passengers and 8 crew members. Today, more than six decades later, we look back to honor the victims and understand what went wrong in one of India's early aviation disasters.
